What is a Movement Community?
The Movement Community is a free 8-week, in-person group experience for people who are living with a life-disrupting loss.
It combines movement—like walking, hiking, or biking—with intentional grief support, held in community with others who get it. Each group includes 15–20 grievers and is guided by a trained E-Motion Facilitator.
Each week, the group gathers in a Sacred Circle to connect, reflect, and then move together toward a shared distance goal—like walking or running a 10K. Between gatherings, participants receive a grief-informed email with a weekly grief concept to consider and move with, along with a simple, supportive movement practice to integrate into your week.
Together, the group completes their shared distance goal—bringing closure to the 8-week experience. To learn more about the model, please visit our page here.
What You’ll Experience:
Shared Distance Goal & Movement Program
At the start, your group will set a shared distance goal—like walking a 5K or running a 10K—and receive a weekly movement plan to help you build toward it. This plan supports consistent movement between gatherings and helps you gradually go a little further each week. You’ll complete your shared goal together in a culminating final gathering.Weekly In-Person Gatherings
Each week, you’ll gather in person, beginning with a short (10 to 15 minute) Sacred Circle where the facilitator will guide the group through intentional grief practices to help ground and center everyone. From there, you’ll move together toward your shared distance goal.Weekly Grief-Informed Email
Between gatherings, your facilitator will send a personalized email that includes:A grief concept to reflect on
A related audio episode from our Rx to Feel series
A quote or poem
A weekly movement plan to guide your practice
The Commitment
Showing Up (Attendance):
Members are expected to attend all Movement Community gatherings or maintain an attendance rate of at least 80%.
We know that life-disrupting loss wreaks havoc on life as we know it. And yet, this community depends on the commitment of its members to ensure we are showing up for each other, building trust among each other, and creating accountability around movement practices. If a member is aware of a scheduling conflict when joining, they should let the facilitator know in advance. If something unexpected comes up during the experience and they need to miss a gathering, they’re encouraged to communicate that with the facilitator as soon as possible.
Commitment to Movement:
Members are encouraged to move their bodies each day.
This movement doesn’t have to be strenuous—gentle walking, stretching, or mindful movement all count. You'll receive a daily movement guide, and we suggest keeping it somewhere visible as a gentle reminder to move. The goal is to help you build a consistent movement practice. Movement becomes a way to be with grief—an embodied companion through loss, helping you build stamina to navigate a life that has been forever changed. Daily movement also supports our shared distance goal as a group, culminating in a meaningful final gathering. That sense of accomplishment matters.

About E-Motion Inc.
E-Motion Inc. is a non-profit organization with a mission to transform how the world shows up for each other through grief and loss, so now one grieves alone. Founded by Myra Sack after the death of her daughter Havi, E-Motion blends bereavement science, lived experience, and sport to reimagine how we move through loss. Born from extraordinary love and grief, E-Motion offers a new way of living—and grieving—together.
Our core program offering - the Movement Community - is a peer-led, movement-based, grief-informed experience for those enduring life-disrupting loss. We envision bringing Movement Communities to neighborhoods everywhere.
