The Grief Movement Community Experience

About This Group

The Grief Movement Community is a free, 8-week, in-person experience for people living with life-disrupting loss. It combines movement—walking, hiking, and/or running—with intentional grief support, held in community with others who get it. As a group, you'll work toward a shared distance goal over the 8 weeks — the distance and pace don't matter, what matters is working toward the goal together. Each group includes 10–20 grievers and is guided by a trained E-Motion Facilitator. The group meets weekly, and participants are expected to attend at least 75% of gatherings.

What To Expect

  • Weekly Gatherings: Each week, your group comes together in person. Every gathering opens with the E-Motion Sacred Circle — a short, guided ritual that grounds and connects the group, including a naming practice in which each person has the chance to speak the name(s) of those they're moving with. From there, you'll get moving together. Every week, you’ll move a little bit further towards your group’s shared distance goal.

Grief + Movement Resources: Between gatherings, you'll receive notes from your Facilitator and the E-Motion Team — grief concepts, reflection questions, songs, poems, and other nourishing content to sit and move with during the week. You'll also receive our Movement Companion, a collection of resources designed to support you in building a steady movement practice. All of this content is created for grievers, by grievers. Take what resonates, and leave what doesn't — these offerings are simply here to support you in whatever way feels most helpful.

A Culminating Gathering: Every group comes together at the end to complete their shared distance goal and honor how far they've come. Two things vary from group to group: the distance, which reflects the goal you've set together, and the format — some groups join an existing local race, while others create their own special gathering to mark the moment. Your Facilitator will share what's planned as your experience unfolds.

A Community of Grievers Who Get It: Grief can be incredibly isolating. This group exists so you don't have to move with loss alone.

Why Join the Grief Movement Community? Words From Our Community

“Grief can often feel isolating, but walking side by side in a supportive environment created space for participants to share their experiences, emotions, and memories without judgment. The simple act of walking together often made difficult conversations feel more natural and accessible, allowing people to process their grief at their own pace.” — Facilitator, Massachusetts

“[Movement, Community, and Ritual] were critical in forming trust and honoring my son. I absolutely need this group. I need to move in nature with others who understand the depth of grief and don’t judge.” — Participant, Connecticut

“This was a safe and pleasant way to spend time with others who are on a grief journey. I appreciated that the rituals were the same every week, and the ways we came together to shift from everyday life into a unique (and sacred) circle/group” — Participant, Vermont

“The consistency of meeting once a week created a strong, loving community and helped regulate my routine.” — Participant, Texas

“I feel like it’s the best thing I’ve done for my grief.” — Facilitator, Connecticut
